Ethos is a legendary vegan paradise located just off the even more legendary Khao San road. It features a huge menu that encompasses all meals; Ethos is one of the few places for vegans on the Banana Pancake Trail where they can actually eat pancakes.
There is a dude passing out flyers on Khao San that describes Ethos as an “oasis” and compared to the nearby bustle of ladyboys and tuktuk drivers offering to take you to pingpong shows it does feel insulated and relaxed. They don’t serve soda here (and are happy to tell you why). They also warn you about eating too much non-fermented soy — a claim I am leery of, but since tempeh is delicious I don’t mind too much.
In addition to curries and pancakes, there is homemade muesli, falafel, aloo gobi, and baked vegan treats like apple crumble with coconut cream custard. The wifi is fast, there is a traveler’s library, and a very cute kitty might come and say hello.
It is a bit expensive, by Thai standards. But the portions are big and they use organic rice and other stuff that’s, you know, good for environment and stuff. No matter what your eating ethos is, you’re bound to enjoy the food here!
I am putting this on my Bangkok list.
Great idea! We should meet up and talk about your trip sometime soon.
