Poon Hill

Poon Hill isn’t officially part of the Annapurna Circuit, but it links to it just out of Tatopani.  After days of descending, the 2000 meter climb is quite rude, but walking through fields that seem right out of the shire and into forests of red, white, and pink rhododendrons makes it somewhat easier.

Poon Hill is in Ghorepani, which also links to the Sanctuary Track.  Many trek from Pokhara to Poon Hill and back as well.  There are a lot of options, but watching the sun rise from Poon Hill is an amazing experience.  There’s even a tea shop up there to combat that pre-dawn chill.  After all, there’s no better morning than one that starts with a little Poon.

  1. Great photographs of Poon Hill! Watching the sun rise of the snow-capped mountains was a wonderful experience. Hope you enjoyed it as much as me!

  2. Thank you. It was a great end to a great track. I’m planning on heading back as soon as possible.
